Garden is an app prototype designed to replicate the joy of gardening. I created it for the collector oriented, houseplant owner.
PROCESS
Mood Board
Setting the desired style, color palette, layout, type, and other inspirations for the project.
Digital Sketch
A digital sketch, setting up the user interface and type. Exploring how the user will navigate the app.
Prototype 1
Began implementing the style of the project. Exploring smooth organic shapes, representative of plants. Added an “awards” section to the plant presentation, to idolize individual plants. Added a back button to each page. Altered the name of the app from “Seed” to “Jardin”. Created pages for adding new plants.
Prototype 2
Updated name to “Garden”. Added in Illustrations, changed the background to a light tan to give more of a natural feel, moved the add plant icon into the garden menu. Removed lines between rows of plants to open up the UI. Added more personalization options for plants. Rounded out search bar corners, changed typeface in menu items.
Prototype 3
Updated intro page with new icon. Furthered visual and interface design. Added an “always there” bottom and top menu item, making sure you never have to scroll or search for what you need. Illustrated shelves for the plants to exist on, no more floating pots! Created separation between information items for easier reading. Removed unnecessary awards from plants. Created fully tappable buttons to addable plants. Unified and simplified plant and pot colors. Increased contrast for colorblind users. Added an option for sorting plants. Moved “change name” and “heart plant” buttons underneath the plant’s name to give more space for custom names.
Final Prototype
Finalized logo and entry page to match other menus. Altered type sizes for better readability and maximization of space. Updated “sort” icon to better represent its purpose. Simplified add plant menu with alternating colors that match the previous palette. Updated the sort menu to be more readable and stay continuous with the style of the app.
